Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke barely avoided a disaster that easily could have ended in his death on Monday after he was pulled from his smoking Jaguar moments before it was engulfed in flames.
TMZ reports that a passing motorist named Jason Pennington spotted the car pulled over to the side of Highway 101 in Los Angeles with an elderly man hunched over the wheel. The driver pulled over and hauled the man, who turned out to be Van Dyke, from the car. The car soon burst into flames, but neither Van Dyke or his hero required medical attention.
The 87-year-old actor's wife reportedly gave him a ride home from the scene.
